Where’s My Refund and 2025 Tax Brackets

One of the biggest questions we get at Pack Tax is, “Where’s my refund?”

Well, the IRS has made it super easy to find out. They offer a “Where’s My Refund?” tool on their website, and there’s also an app called IRS2Go that you can download to your phone. Both let you track your refund and get updates about when you’ll see that sweet cash in your account—usually just 24 hours after you e-file your return.

To use it, you’ll need your Social Security Number (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number), your filing status (single, married filing jointly, etc.), and the amount of your expected refund. Then, the IRS will give you the details: whether they’ve received your return, if it’s been approved, and when your refund is scheduled to land.

So, when will you get your refund?

That depends. Did you e-file or mail in a paper return? If you e-filed, you’re probably looking at less than 21 days to get your refund. Easy, right?

What could slow things down?

If you mailed in a paper return, you’re probably in for a bit of a wait since IRS employees need to manually process those. Also, if you’re claiming things like the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, those refunds won’t be issued until at least mid-February by law. And don’t forget—if you made any math errors or missed an SSN, that can slow things down too.

What’s up with the new 2025 tax brackets?

The IRS has already set new tax brackets for 2025, but don’t worry—this won’t affect your 2024 tax return. Each year, they adjust the brackets to keep up with inflation, which helps avoid “bracket creep.” That’s when people end up in a higher tax bracket just because the cost of living increases, even though their actual income hasn’t changed.

For 2025, the brackets are going up by 2.8%. That’s a smaller increase than usual—much lower than the 7% jump in 2020—but still helps make sure you’re not paying more than you need to.
